His art celebrates life and stands for vitality and joy. Born in Brazil, Romero Britto lived an extremely modest lifestyle while growing up amongst eight brothers and sisters in Recife. Nowadays he is one of the most renowned Neo Pop artists worldwide. His paintings and sculptures combine elements of Cubism, Pop Art and Graffiti. Britto created the Festival’s poster already in 1999 for its 33rd edition and the logo of the Festival’s archives Montreux Sounds. Chris Drew and Toby May are 2 opposites who fused their unique artistic vision to become CATCHA. After their first flamboyant electric album (Lotus Records 2007), the British duo was compelled to dig deeper to reach the true essence of their art, and so, wrote and auto-produced an acoustic album (Catchamusic 2009). In order to give the audience the clearest possible insight, CATCHA chose this simple and direct approach to retain the delicate and intimate nature of their lyrics and melodies. The 12 songs of this new opus entitled « 2 » explore the inside world, where each and everyone’s innermost emotions, anxieties and fantasies are set free. The additional lush arrangements bring power and depth to the 2 voices and 2 guitars, revealing the full flavor of this acoustic-pop album. The single « Cold As Stone » sums up the world of CATCHA. On Friday June 27 at 6am the first permanent Montreux Jazz Café is opening its doors to the public at Geneva International Airport. The café is a long-standing dream of Claude Nobs and will enable the public to eat in a setting that highlights the history of the Festival. This is thanks to a partnership with SSP, the leading dedicated operator of food and beverage brands in travel locations worldwide.
After several months of reflection and building work, the public can enjoy the mellow atmosphere of Geneva International Airport’s Montreux Jazz Café. Located on the arrivals level, it offers clients a chance to immerse themselves in the exciting world of the Montreux Jazz Festival. Claude Nobs’ total commitment to the project, alongside architects, designers and the operator, has made all the difference: the Festival impregnates the place down to the smallest detail - from the menu to the decoration.
The Café comprises a restaurant area, a lounge and “the backstage”, where there is a stage and a 70-inch flat screen on which the Festival archives are to be shown. A top-class sound system guarantees the public quality that is in keeping with the images presented. During the Festival, travellers stopping off at the Café will have the privilege of watching concerts just a few hours after they have taken place at the Auditorium Stravinski or Miles Davis Hall.
For Claude Nobs, who is a trained chef, working on the menu with Michelin-starred chef Gilles Dupont from Cologny’s Lion d’Or restaurant in canton Geneva was a captivating experience. He has named some of the dishes after his favourite artists or mythical songs such as the Montreux-inspired Smoke on the Water.
The association between SSP and the Montreux Jazz Festival is an opportunity to unite two symbols of excellence in the common aim of offering the public a journey into music, accompanied by first-rate dishes. There seemed no better place to start this new adventure than Geneva International Airport, a veritable gateway to the world, where most of the artists land before performing in Montreux.
